Sample Vials
Tubes and vials for general collection, storage, and transportation of samples; available in a variety of colors, sizes, volume capacities, and material compositions; may be sterile, non-sterile, and/or autoclavable; may include caps.
The term “vial” is somewhat undefined and is usually described as a small, cylindrical, and flat-bottomed container used to hold liquids. Most sample vials are made of plastic or glass, and include a separate or attached lid or closure. Sample vials are categorized by material and also by their size or specific purpose.
Glass sample vials are categorized by the type of glass used to make them.
- Type I, Class A glass sample vials are made from low-expansion borosilicate glass
- Type I, Class B glass sample vials are made from an alumino-borosilicate glass
- Type II are made from soda-lime glass
Plastic sample vials may be made from a variety of resins, including:
- Polycarbonate
- Polypropylene
- Polystyrene
- Low-density polyethylene (LDPE)
- High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
Glass sample vials may be clear or amber-colored (to protect the contents from ultraviolet light). Plastic sample vials are available in a range of colors, including amber, natural, and clear resins.
Sample vials may have different types of closures, depending on their use and the material being stored.

Electron Microscopy Sciences Microwave Histoprocessing Rack /10 Disp Trays
Simple and reliable device holds up to 24 standard cassettes for histoprocessing in a microwave. The rack manufactured from "PTFE" resins and will withstand repeated exposure to fixatives, dehydrating agents, clearing agents, and paraffin. Easily cleaned in hot water. It is intended for use with a disposable tray which holds the processing chemicals.
Four processing racks and trays fit into the EMS 9000 Microwave Processor so 96 cassettes can be processed in one run. The histotechnologist needs to handle the individual cassettes only once to load them into the racks. Rack is placed into a tray containing the dehydrating medium and microwaved. After dehydration, the rack containing the cassettes is transferred into a tray containing the clearing agent and microwaved. After clearing, the rack is transferred to a tray containing liquid paraffin and microwaved. The entire process can take as little as 25 minutes. No hazardous chemicals needed.
Electron Microscopy Sciences Shell Vial Holder
Machined from solid aluminum, holds 5 (#72631-10) shell vials. It is ideal for handling cold or hot samples for prolonged periods of time out of the refrigerator or oven. Comes complete with a handle. Measurements: 4 3/4" x 1 1/4" x 3/4".

Electron Microscopy Sciences Shell Vials, 2 Dram
These vials are optically clear with straight-sides. Made from Type1, N-51A borosilicate glass. Fixation, dehydration, and infiltration procedures can be done in the same vial. The larger size vials can be used as an embedding media mixture container or for sample storage. The vials come with polyethylene open bottom snap-caps, Titeseal, which are packed separately. Except the 4-dram size vial which comes without a closure. We recommend the use of our cork stoppers. 19x51mm (ODxHgt).

Electron Microscopy Sciences V-Vials Borosilicate Clear Vial with Cap, 1.0 ml
These vials are made from Wheaton-33 low extractable borosilicate glass and they safeguard against any change of product pH caused by alkali, which can be extracted from ordinary glass. Wheaton V-Vials are exceptionally sturdy vials with a conical interior bottom. Their special features insure maximum security and economy in handling, storing and shipping of costly micro and semi-micro samples.
V-Vials are ideal for Micro Mixing, Homogenization, Centrifugation, Concentration, Extraction, Derivatization, Radiosynthesis, Hybridization, Anaerobic Reactions, and Catalytic Hydrogenation.
